The former title contender Costa seems to be the ideal opponent to welcome Chimaev back to the division as he has hinted that he will go up to middleweight for his upcoming match.

An altercation between the two occurred at the UFC Performance Institute earlier this month, igniting speculation of a prospective matchup.

Cejudo, a former UFC dual champion and Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, believes Chimaev (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) faces various challenges from Costa (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who he does not believe will be able to dictate terms to the Brazilian.

“I personally think that’s a tough fight for Khamzat,” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “Paulo has gone against world-class wrestlers and has won, has defended him – he wasn’t taken down by Yoel Romero. Yoel Romero’s got inside trips, Yoel Romero’s got double legs, he’s got all that under the sun. There’s a big difference of levels of wrestling when it comes to Khamzat and Yoel Romero.” reported

At UFC 241, Costa defeated Yoel Romero by a razor-thin margin after the Olympic silver medallist was unable to hold Costa down. If they do wind up fighting, Cejudo predicts Costa will hand Chimaev his first defeat because he believes Costa will not only force Chimaev to work in the grappling area but also pose a threat with his ability to end a fight

“I’m going Paulo Costa. Why? Because I think the wrestling is going to be neutralized, and I do believe that he’s a little more experienced in the UFC than Khamzat Chimaev.”
